Australia to offer residency to hundreds from Tuvalu, nation at high risk from climate change

Australia to enter into a significant treaty with Tuvalu, offering citizens of the climate-threatened nation the opportunity to build lives in Australia. The announcement was made by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese during a meeting with Tuvalu Prime Minister Kausea Natano in the Cook Islands. The treaty, named the Falepili Union, will allow Australia to welcome 280 Tuvaluans annually, granting them access to a special visa. The agreement encompasses various elements, including climate mitigation and adaptation, a migration pathway, and security.
