On this day, Kenyan citizens are encouraged to participate in various community service activities, such as cleaning public spaces, planting trees, visiting hospitals and orphanages, and engaging in other acts of volunteerism. The day aims to foster a sense of national unity, pride, and social responsibility among the people of Kenya. It was established by the government to commemorate the anniversary of the promulgation of the new constitution in 2010. It serves as a reminder of the importance of public service and giving back to the community, emphasizing the values of selflessness and civic duty.

Uganda’s journey toward political stability included the enactment of a new constitution in 1995. After 30 years of political instability, Ugandans voted in favour of returning to multiparty politics in a national referendum held in July 2005. The formal Ugandan Independence Day national parade takes place at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, where the President leads the ceremony.
