Commonwealth Parliament passes law enabling offshore CO2 storage

The Commonwealth Parliament has approved amendments to the Environment Protection (Sea Dumping) Act 1981, facilitating the injection and transportation of carbon dioxide (CO2) in Australian waters. Pilot Energy Limited provided an update on the Mid West Clean Energy Project (MWCEP) regulatory process in light of these amendments. The changes enable the provision of a near-term CO2 management service to industrial emitters, offering a means to permanently eliminate emissions during the energy transition. Australia, having joined the London Protocol in 2000, is committed to marine environmental protection.

ClimateLaunchPad, organised by EIT Climate-KIC, Europe’s leading climate innovation initiative, is the world’s largest green business competition for climate innovators.

International deal to combat crypto tax evasion to start 2027 as 48 countries sign up

A total of 48 countries, including the U.K. and Singapore have pledged to implement a tax-transparency standard from 2027. This initiative aims to facilitate the automatic exchange of information between jurisdictions, specifically targeting tax evasion on cryptocurrency exchanges. The agreement incorporates the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s (OECD) Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework (CARF), finalised in June, into the organization’s existing Common Reporting Standard (CRS). The CRS serves as an information standard for the automatic exchange of financial account-related information among tax authorities.
