Krishna Janmashtami

Krishna Janmashtami

The festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm across India and by Hindus around the world. Devotees observe a day-long fast, which they break at midnight, the time traditionally believed to be Krishna’s birth. Temples and homes are decorated, and idols of baby Krishna are bathed and adorned with new clothes. Children dress up as little Krishnas and Radhas, filling the atmosphere with innocence and cheer. Devotional songs, dances, and plays depicting scenes from Krishna’s life are performed. Another popular tradition associated with Janmashtami is the Dahi Handi celebration. In this event, young men form human pyramids to break a pot filled with curd, butter, or other dairy products, symbolising the playful and mischievous nature of Krishna, who was fond of stealing butter.

Raksha Bandhan India

Raksha Bandhan India

Rakshabandhan is a vibrant celebration of the bond of love, duty, and lifelong care between brothers and sisters. It is observed on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Shravana (usually in August). On this day, sisters perform a small puja (ritual), applying a tilak on their brother’s forehead and tying a rakhi on his wrist. After the ceremony, families enjoy festive meals, exchange sweets and gifts, and partake in general merriment. It’s a time for brothers and sisters, even those separated by distance, to reunite and cherish their special bond.

India Independence Day

India Independence Day

On the historic morning of August 15, 1947, the Indian national flag was raised for the first time, and Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of independent India, delivered his iconic “Tryst with Destiny” speech, declaring the birth of a new nation. Across the country, people celebrated this momentous occasion with great enthusiasm, taking to the streets, organizing parades, and proudly hoisting the tricolor flag with its saffron, white, and green bands, and the Ashoka Chakra at the center.

Today, India Independence Day is celebrated with immense patriotism and fervor. The day begins with the hoisting of the national flag by the President of India at the iconic Red Fort in New Delhi, followed by a grand military parade showcasing the country’s might and diversity. Throughout India, homes and public spaces are adorned with the tricolor flag, and people gather with family and friends to enjoy traditional sweets, music, and cultural performances. Schools and educational institutions also organize events to educate the younger generation about the significance of this day and the values of India’s freedom struggle.
