National Day is a festive and patriotic occasion that brings together people from all walks of life to celebrate Singapore’s achievements, progress, and unity as a nation. During celebrations, a plethora of entertainment awaits spectators, including mesmerizing skydiving displays, captivating choir performances, and dynamic presentations by school bands. Following this, a grand parade ensues, offering both locals and visitors the chance to witness a diverse and multicultural procession. The parade features an array of elements, from vibrant music and spirited dancing to the participation of military personnel, police, schools, and various businesses.

In 1974, the Nevis Dramatic and Cultural Society (NEDACS) identified a decline in traditional dance troupes during the Christmas festival. To preserve Nevisian heritage, they introduced a fresh celebration named ‘Culturama.’ It was strategically scheduled for the August Emancipation weekend. This festival exuberantly presents a diverse array of traditional folk art forms, including dance, drama, poetry, folk singing, music, pageants, and arts and crafts. During this spirited celebration, people unite in a vivid, joyous spectacle to honour their vibrant culture and heritage.
