Commonwealth Secretary-General honoured with Global Africa Champion Award in Ghana
The Rt Hon Patricia Scotland KC, Commonwealth Secretary-General, was honoured with the Global African Champion Award in recognition of her outstanding advocacy for prosperity across Africa. The prestigious award was presented by His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the President of Ghana, during a ceremony in Accra.
This historic moment marked the Commonwealth Secretary-General as the inaugural recipient of the award, with the ceremony witnessing the presence of African and Caribbean heads of government, prominent political figures, senior policymakers, technocrats, civil society representatives, academics, and business executives.
This initiative, sponsored by the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), aims to accelerate and enhance trade between African countries.

Sri Lanka Mission in Pretoria celebrates 76th Independence Day and 30th Anniversary of diplomatic relations
The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Pretoria commemorated the 76th Anniversary of Sri Lanka’s Independence on February 4, 2024, with members of the Sri Lankan community and other well-wishers at the High Commission. Approximately 200 Sri Lankans living in South Africa, as well as Botswana and Mozambique, along with South African friends of Sri Lanka participated.
According to attendees and Sri Lankan community members, this year marked the highest participation in Independence Day celebrations organized by the High Commission in recent history. Additionally, 2024 holds significance for bilateral relations as the countries celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties.
