Commonwealth Secretary-General to Advocate for Small States at UN SIDS4 Conference in Antigua and Barbuda
Commonwealth Secretary-General, Rt Hon Patricia Scotland KC, will attend the fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS4) in Antigua and Barbuda. From May 27-30, 2024, the conference aims to establish a new program of action to support the sustainability and resilience of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) over the next decade. Secretary-General Scotland will lead a delegation advocating for the interests of the Commonwealth’s 33 Small States, focusing on critical challenges such as the climate crisis and biodiversity loss.

Seychelles and Botswana to collaborate on agriculture, education and tourism projects
Seychelles and Botswana reaffirmed collaboration in agriculture, education, and tourism. High Commissioner Chandapiwa Nteta sought Seychelles’ international support amid Botswana’s diamond trade challenges. Import restrictions by the G7 on Russian diamonds could impact Botswana’s diamond industry. Okavango Diamond Company urged reconsideration. Discussions with Minister Radegonde included trade, investments, and the Bilateral Air Service Agreement. Both countries share a positive bilateral relationship, with exchanges like Seychellois teachers studying in Botswana and Botswanan teachers in Seychelles’ state schools.
