Pakistani official calls for concerted efforts to fight climate change
Pakistan’s Minister of State for Climate Change, Zartaj Gul, urges concerted efforts to counter the adverse impacts of climate change. Gul said that the use of advanced technology to cope and monitor impending disasters of climate change is required. Despite contributing to less than one per cent of global greenhouse emissions, Pakistan has suffered a lot from a variety of natural calamities. More government initiatives are needed like the Ten Billion Tree Tsunami programme, Clean Green Pakistan, the establishment of national parks and forest restoration to mitigate climate crises.

Bluechip Infotech takes majority stake in New Zealand’s Soft Solutions
Australia’s IT products distributor, Bluechip Infotech inks a deal to acquire 60% of Auckland-based IT distributor Soft Solutions. Soft Solutions is a distributor of computer software and hardware representing more than 30 vendors with a focus in the areas of security, network management, VoIP, help desk/ticketing systems, and storage. The acquisition will give Bluechip a physical presence in New Zealand, adding to its footprint across Australia.

Zambia: Businessman taps into cassava’s industrial potential
Zambia’s Premiercon Starch Company Limited manufactures starch from cassava and sweet potato in the Kalumbila District. Founder Lubasi Yuyi had to quit his job to set up a business that would integrate household communities into the mining supply chain by finding something they could grow and sell back to the mines. He came up with a business plan, identifying all the technology and equipment needed to facilitate starch production from cassava for the mines with a capacity of 48 tonnes a day. Today, Premiercon have a dedicated laboratory at the facility to study all the uses of starch and possible ways of industrial applications.
