Kenya turns invasive water hyacinth into cleaner cooking fuel
Nairobi-based green energy supplier Biogas International is piloting a project on the shores of Lake Victoria converting the invasive water hyacinth plant into cleaner cooking fuel. The company has partnered with pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca to discourage the use of wood fuel. About 50 homes in the Kenyan city Kisumu (360 kilometres from Nairobi) were provided with biogas digesters.

Australia’s Lynas gets regulator nod for disposal facility in Malaysia
Australian Lynas Rare Earths Ltd bags environmental approvals from Malaysian authorities to build a permanent disposal facility for water leached purification residue in the country. Lynas is one of the world’s biggest rare earth miners and received an extension on a deadline due to the ongoing pandemic to satisfy licence conditions for building the permanent disposal facility.

New Zealand’s Xero to acquire Calgary’s TaxCycle in a deal to expand Canadian presence
Xero, a New Zealand-based accounting software platform announces the acquisition of Calgary based tax solution software startup TaxCycle for a total of $75 million CAD. The deal is expected to end by December 31 on account of the company’s commitment on expanding its overall presence in Canada. TaxCycle, formally known as Trilogy Software, was founded in 2010 by CEO Cameron Peters.
