Happy III Full Moon Poya Day to everyone celebrating! The day celebrates attaining Vivarana (the assurance of becoming a Buddha) by the Bodhisatta Maitreya and the commissioning of 60 disciples by The Buddha to disperse his teachings. The day also commemorates the conclusion of the three-month retreat (vipassana).

Some of the key events remembered during the Poya Days include Buddha’s birthday, Buddha’s enlightenment, Buddha sending 60 disciples as missionaries, Buddha’s personal visits to Sri Lanka, Mahinda bringing Buddhism to Sri Lanka, and the first Buddhist council held after Buddha’s passing.

British-based entrepreneur Lavinia Osbourne, founder of Women in Blockchain Talks, a space for women, plans to launch an NFT marketplace called “Crypto Kweens” for female artists, entrepreneurs and collectors. Cryptocurrency is becoming popular among young people and in various races but according to a survey conducted by CNBC and Acorn, the gender gap in crypto investments is much wider than any other financial investments as women only make up about a fifth of US investors. Also, Black women make up just 4% of crypto investors.

Commonwealth Secretariat partners with legal firm Mayer Brown to review and rebuild the Energy Module of the Law and Climate Change Toolkit. It will be an online tool to assess and reform energy law frameworks. According to the Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland, “policy-makers now have access to more energy legislation to meet their Paris Agreement targets.”
