Sri Lanka launches welfare programme for 3.1 mn families
The government of Sri Lanka releases its restructured welfare benefits programme themed “leave no one behind.” It aims to aid about 3.1 million vulnerable families. The applications are available for download from the Welfare Benefits Board website and registration closes this October 15.

Africa: ‘Afrobeats’ could become a Grammy category
Producer, songwriter, and Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. who recently attended GUBA Awards in Kigali, Rwanda announced that the institution is considering an Afrobeats category for the Annual Grammy Awards. He added, “my goal is to represent all genres of music, including Afrobeats, at the Grammys.”

The festival is celebrated on the tenth day of the month of Ashwin in the lunisolar Hindu calendar. In honour of the goddess Durga, the day marks the moment good prevailed over evil as Ravana, the King of Lanka was defeated by Lord Ram, the King of Ayodha. Celebrations include the burning of effigies of Ravana, followed by fireworks in a symbolic destruction of evil.
