Tanzania Independence Day
Tanzania’s President, Samia Suluhu Hassan, has cancelled the 61st Independence Day festivities and has decided instead to spend the budget on upgrading primary schools for children. Instead of parades and other celebrations about $445,000 (£364,000) of the budget will now be spent on dormitories for children with special needs.
Sanctuary secures 30 million from Canadas SIF to build robots with human-like intelligence
Sanctuary Cognitive Systems, a Canadian AI and robotics company receives about $30 million of investment funds from the federal government. The startup is on a mission to create the world’s first operational robot with human-like intelligence and could hire more than 160 employees for it.

Top Hat acquires STEM edtech startup Aktiv Learning
Top Hat, a Toronto-based online education platform agrees to acquire Aktiv Learning, a next-gen STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education startup. During the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in Canada, the number of graduates with technical skills dropped from 96 per cent to 83.6 per cent according to a study.
