Under a new model of funding university education in Kenya, students who are vulnerable and in dire need will be exempt from paying fees starting this year. President William Ruto has announced that the funding for these students will come in the form of government scholarships, loans, and grants. According to the President, students from disadvantaged households who enrol in universities will receive government scholarships that cover up to 53% of their education expenses, as well as loans that cover up to 40%. Only the remaining 7% of the cost of their university education will be needed to cover by their households.
