The word “Umuganura” means “first fruits” in the Kinyarwanda language, and symbolises the celebration of the first harvest of the season. On this day, various rituals and ceremonies take place, including offerings of the first harvested crops, prayers, traditional dances, and feasting. The festival serves as a way to show gratitude to ancestors, promote unity and reconciliation among communities, and strengthen Rwandan cultural identity.

The 13th Commonwealth Women’s Affairs Ministers Meeting (13WAMM) is set to take place from 21-23 August 2023 at the stunning Atlantis Paradise Island Resort in Nassau, the Bahamas. This significant gathering will convene under the theme ‘Equality Toward a Common Future.’

As the host country, the Government of the Bahamas will lead the meeting, which serves as the primary decision-making platform for the Commonwealth women’s affairs ministers.

The Commonwealth Secretary-General, the Rt Hon Patricia Scotland KC, underscored the pressing need for increased collaboration in order to foster a resilient and sustainable tourism sector that benefits people, prosperity, and the planet.

During her address at the United Nations World Tourism Organization Regional Commission for Africa meeting held in Mauritius, she shed light on the delicate vulnerability of the tourism industry and stressed the significance of collective action to address this issue.
