Community gearing up for progress as renovated Lomé-Cotonou road slashes travel times
Matthew and Émile benefit from the second phase of the Lomé-Cotonou Road Rehabilitation and Coastal Protection Project. This development initiative, aimed at improving living conditions and promoting regional integration, received funding from a consortium of organizations, including the African Development Bank, the European Union, the West African Development Bank (BOAD), the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), and the Global Environment Facility (GEF). The project’s total cost amounted to US$194.89 million, with the African Development Bank Group providing US$39.47 million in loans and donations, the European Union contributing US$19.48 million in donations, and additional funding secured through loans and donations from the BOAD, the IsDB, and the GEF.

During this occasion, Iskcon temples worldwide are adorned with festive decorations, drawing a multitude of devotees who gather to dance and revel in the celebrations with heartfelt devotion. Additionally, various games and activities are arranged for children within the temple premises. In some regions, participants engage in the Dahi Handi event, where human pyramids are formed to break pots filled with yoghurt as part of the festive tradition.
Record £12.26 million pledged to the Commonwealth Heritage Forum’s heritage skills programme
The Commonwealth Heritage Forum will award £12.26 million over the next four years to support the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Commonwealth Heritage Skills Training Programme. The Programme will train more than 3,500 young people in heritage skills in countries where there is little existing capacity to address heritage at risk. The Commonwealth Heritage Forum launched the Programme at the Commonwealth Secretariat in May 2022 and received the rare privilege of using Her late Majesty’s name to honour her seventy years of service to the Commonwealth of Nations.
