Vanuatu Independence Day

Ghana Parliament votes to end death penalty
In a significant move, Ghana’s Parliament made a historic decision to amend the country’s Criminal Offences Act, resulting in the replacement of the death penalty with life imprisonment. The amendment was introduced by Francis-Xavier Sosu, Minister of Parliament with strong support from various rights groups. Following the successful vote, a total of 170 inmates who were previously on death row will now have their sentences commuted to life imprisonment. This decision marks a momentous step towards promoting a more humane and compassionate approach to criminal justice in the nation.
