Held biennially, this significant gathering brings together ministers and attorneys-general from the 56 Commonwealth countries, united by a shared legal tradition. The theme for this year’s meeting is ‘Technology and Innovation: How digitalisation paves the way for the development of people-centred access to justice.’

Ghana and Zambia to boost cooperation, trade and investment

In a significant diplomatic move, Foreign Minister Shirley Botchwey’s visit to Lusaka has laid the foundation for enhanced cooperation between Ghana and Zambia. The Foreign Minister was warmly received by President Hakainde Hichilema, and their discussions emphasized the crucial role of trade and investment in fostering economic stability and development.

President Hichilema expressed the importance of economic stability for political stability during the meeting at the State House in Lusaka, highlighting the shared commitment to mutual growth. During her visit, Minister Botchwey engaged in a milestone moment by signing two Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) alongside her acting Zambian counterpart, Mulambo Haimbe. The first MoU outlines comprehensive mechanisms to promote commercial, economic, cultural, technical, scientific, and political cooperation between the two nations. The second MoU underscores collaboration in defence matters, encompassing training and development initiatives.

As both countries prioritise economic stability through diplomatic collaboration, the agreements signed during this visit are poised to drive substantial benefits and further solidify the bond between Ghana and Zambia.
