Huawei unveils tech-supported smart fire-detection for Cyprus

During a launch event, Huawei, in collaboration with startup company PROBOTEK, demonstrated an early fire detection system as part of their “Smart & Green Village” program. Utilising Cyta’s 5G network, the solution was showcased in Athalassa Park, a significant step in leveraging technologies like 5G, Artificial Intelligence, and drones to detect forest fires in advance in Cyprus, a country prone to hot and dry summers. The presentation was attended by government officials, academic representatives, and non-governmental organisations. The event highlighted the potential of smart innovations in minimising damage and safeguarding the lives and properties of local residents.

If you represent a public or private sector institution in a Commonwealth country and have plans for a peer-to-peer learning program, consider applying for the Connectivity Agenda’s Cross-Regional Connectivity Grants Program. This initiative supports Commonwealth member states in cross-regional learning activities, fostering knowledge, capacity, and expertise for increased trade and investment. The program offers modest grants of up to £25,000 for a maximum of four initiatives per call round. The application window is currently open and closes on December 1, 2023.
