New funding for improving access to blue climate finance

The Commonwealth Secretariat announces the appointment of a consortium of experts in a joint venture of the Commonwealth Climate Finance Access Hub and the Commonwealth Blue Charter to advise on ocean-climate finance. The consortium will help Commonwealth governments to develop proposals and access funding for ocean-based adaptation and mitigation activities.

In rural Nigeria, the magic of cinema builds support for ape conservation

Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) has been working with local groups to screen films about apes and support conservation in rural communities of Nigeria to connect better. Afi Mountain Wildlife Sanctuary, Mbe Mountains Community Sanctuary, Okwangwo division of Cross River National Park in southeast Nigeria and other adjoining protected sites in Cameroon where Cross River gorillas are still found the magic of cinema is used to build knowledge about apes and why it is important for future generations.

Malaysian Nadiah Wan, Thomson Hospital CEO, among Forbes Asia’s 20 most powerful businesswomen

Thomson Hospital’s CEO Wan Nadiah Wan Abdullah Yaakob is the only Malaysian to be listed in Forbes Asia’s 2021 top 20 female business leaders. Wan was recognised for her efforts in establishing a Covid-19 task force at the hospital. The hospital also introduced a mobile app, for remote end-to-end patient care. Japan and Singapore had the most representation each having three businesswomen featured in The Forbes list.
