The gender disparity issue is a global problem but Africa seems to be most affected. According to Project Syndicate, in sub-Saharan Africa only 30% of professionals in the tech industry are women.

Alitheia IDF becomes the largest gender-lens private equity fund by value in Africa. Alitheia IDF (AIF) which is Africa’s first women-led and women-focused investing fund has announced the final close of the $100 million funds with European Investment Bank (EIB) joining as the closing investor with $24.6 million. The fund aims to increase investment in women-led businesses across essential sectors. IDF has investments in growth-stage companies across six African countries: Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Lesotho and Zambia.

Born in Nigeria’s oil-rich Niger Delta, Tariye Gbadegesin has helped launch a public-private pan-African infrastructure bank, the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC). She led AFC’s first wind power project and became the face of the bank’s climate engagement. In March 2020, she became Nigeria-based fund’s CEO at ARM-Harith. Gbadegesin also talked about strategy and business for achieving net-zero goals and its impact on the continent’s future development at COP26.
