Al-Hijrah: Islamic New Year
It is the first day of Muharram, which is the first month of the Islamic Calendar. This month is amongst the four most significant months of the calendar. The customs and celebrations of this day vary from country to country. In general, special prayers and sermons are offered at religious places.
Vanuatu Independence Day
During this holiday, the most festive celebrations take place around Port Villa, the capital of Vanuatu. Flag raising ceremonies, military parades, traditional performances and canoe races at the harbour are amongst the many activities citizens partake in. A special beverage called “kava” is consumed during the joyful holiday.
