Kenya Jamhuri Day
“Jamhuri” in Swahili means republic. This day is celebrated with feasts, political speeches, parades, and dancing. On the 59th Jamhuri Day, celebrations will be held at the Nyayo stadium in the nation’s capital of Nairobi. This year, a special theme has been established which is innovative Jamhuri Day focusing on Connecting, Innovating and Inspiring with Technology.
Tanzania Independence Day
Tanzania’s President, Samia Suluhu Hassan, has cancelled the 61st Independence Day festivities and has decided instead to spend the budget on upgrading primary schools for children. Instead of parades and other celebrations about $445,000 (£364,000) of the budget will now be spent on dormitories for children with special needs.
Sanctuary secures 30 million from Canadas SIF to build robots with human-like intelligence
Sanctuary Cognitive Systems, a Canadian AI and robotics company receives about $30 million of investment funds from the federal government. The startup is on a mission to create the world’s first operational robot with human-like intelligence and could hire more than 160 employees for it.
