CARICOM Day is a celebration of Caribbean identity, resilience, and aspirations. The Treaty of Chaguaramas, which took effect on August 1, 1973, marked the establishment of CARICOM. The founding nations of this regional organization were Barbados, Jamaica, Guyana, and Trinidad & Tobago. It honours the achievements of the member states in building a strong regional community and reinforces their determination to overcome shared challenges and pursue common goals. It serves as a platform for member states to discuss important regional issues, strengthen diplomatic ties, and promote collaboration in areas such as trade, education, health, and sustainable development.

On Constitution Day, official ceremonies may be held, attended by government officials, dignitaries, and public members. Speeches and addresses are delivered to highlight the importance of the Constitution and its role in safeguarding the rights and values of the Cayman Islands. Cultural performances, parades, and exhibitions may take place to showcase the vibrant traditions, heritage, and diversity of the Cayman Islands. It is a time for the local community to unite and celebrate their shared identity as Caymanians.

Premier and Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Sustainable Development, Dr. Natalio D. Wheatley, announces this year’s festivities, to be held under the theme “Virgin Islands Day Celebration: A Cultural Experience.” The event will feature a praise party hosted by Brent Hoyte and Oneyke, a cultural celebration service, and an official ceremony that will delve into significant cultural and historical aspects, providing valuable insights and lessons. Additionally, there will be traditional Virgin Islands games, cultural demonstrations, and a fishing competition, adding to the diverse range of activities for attendees to enjoy.
