In 2011, the country adopted a new constitution that guaranteed equal rights for men and women, and in 2016, Gabonese voters elected the country’s first female vice president. Despite these gains, women in Gabon still face significant challenges and Women’s Rights Day advocates for greater gender equality and empowerment.
