A military parade is held yearly at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala to celebrate Uganda Independence Day. The ceremony begins with the arrival of the President, who takes the national salute as “Oh Uganda, Land of Beauty” is played. The President inspects the guard of honour, after which the band performs a slow march followed by a quick march, signalling the escort to retrieve the national colours. The President inspects the parade once the colours are presented and the national salute is given. The national colours are raised on the main flagpole, and the President delivers a holiday address. Following this, religious leaders lead prayers for the nation, before the parade commander orders the parade to commence with a slow march, transitioning into a quick march.

The day is not only a celebration of Uganda’s freedom but also a reminder of the ongoing journey toward national unity and development. It serves as an opportunity for Ugandans to reflect on their identity, values, and aspirations for the future.
