On this holiday, the President, on the advice of the Prime Minister and the recommendations of the Advisory Committee, distributes National Awards to citizens nominated for their extraordinary dedication to Trinidad and Tobago. Official speeches, parades, dances, and other festivities are also part of the celebrations.
