The Tongan island, Eua is not only crippled by unemployment but the vital resources and ecosystems are under constant pressure due to climate change. Locals on the island are learning to carve handmade canoes to tackle environmental challenges, provide employment to young islanders, and give them a cost-effective way of catching fish. The canoe building programme is run by the MORDI Tonga Trust and is funded by IFAD and the Tongan Government.
