About the Guildhall Event

On 14 July 2022, a beautiful music event, “The Queen and The Commonwealth”, was presented by the City of London Corporation, in celebration of the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty The Queen, Head of The Commonwealth. The programme included six outstanding performances given by the Commonwealth Youth Orchestra’s Youth Choir and Commonwealth Scholars’ Choir with the Band of the Coldstream Guards.

Her Majesty the Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, is Diamond Jubilee Patron 2012 of the Commonwealth Youth Orchestra and Choir (CYO). With a mission “to use music as a means of international dialogue, knowing no boundaries”, the CYO unites communities in the 56 Nations of The Commonwealth, transcending all cultural, political, social and economic boundaries. Its mission is delivered by a 3-point plan: “Engage-Educate-Empower”. During the splendid event, there was an announcement of CYO’s recently established Commonwealth Music Academy, which is a Platinum Jubilee Legacy initiative – Inspire to Aspire – to honour Her Majesty The Queen, and Her Majesty’s 70 years as Head of The Commonwealth.

The Commonwealth Chamber of Commerce is a proud supporter and contributor to this celebration of Her Majesty The Queen, who has been an exemplary leader and a consistent and unifying symbol of the international spirit of mutual support, empathy and camaraderie that is the foundation of The Commonwealth of Nations.
