Michelle Tau, crowned Miss Lesotho, makes history as Lesotho’s first Olympic taekwondo qualifier in 20 years. The -49 kg category athlete secured her spot for Paris 2024 at the African Qualifying tournament in Dakar. Known for her soft and shy demeanor off the mat, Tau transforms into “beast mode” in the ring. Tau aspires to become the first Mosotho athlete to reach the Olympic podium. Inspired by her parents, both former national team members, Tau overcame training challenges by moving to Spain in 2023. Her journey from Lesotho’s capital, Maseru, to the Olympic stage symbolizes her belief that “everything is possible.” She is set to be one of four Basotho taekwondo athletes and the third woman from Lesotho to qualify for the Olympics, following Likeleli Alinah Thamae and Lineo Mochesane.
