Nairobi-based green energy supplier Biogas International is piloting a project on the shores of Lake Victoria converting the invasive water hyacinth plant into cleaner cooking fuel. The company has partnered with pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca to discourage the use of wood fuel. About 50 homes in the Kenyan city Kisumu (360 kilometres from Nairobi) were provided with biogas digesters.
