Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO) has entered into a $1.3 billion public-private partnership (PPP) with Indian conglomerate Adani Group and Africa50, an infrastructure investment platform of the African Development Bank. The partnership aims to enhance Kenya’s power transmission infrastructure, as confirmed by David Ndii, chief economic adviser to President William Ruto.

In a related development, Adani Power and Adani Green Energy have secured a contract to provide 6.6GW of combined renewable and thermal power to the Indian state of Maharashtra up to 2047. This move expands the Adani subsidiaries’ footprint in the region.

Since March 2023, Adani Green Energy’s wind-solar plant in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, has been supplying green energy to Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra. As part of the agreement, Adani Green Energy will supply 5GW of solar power from its renewable energy park in Khavda, Kutch district, Gujarat.
