Falling on the third Monday of October, the day is celebrated with public award ceremonies to acknowledge both the historical and modern day heroes of Jamaica and their achievements and service towards the country. Aside from award ceremonies, flag raising ceremonies, public speeches by political officials and awareness campaigns are some of the ways Jamaicans celebrate.
