On this day, idols of Ganesh are placed and decorated in homes or outdoors for people to view and pay their respect for his arrival. Throughout the 10 days of festivities, people offer coconut, flowers, jaggery, sweets, gold and money to the god. On the last day, the holy statue is submersed in the ocean or water body signifying his departure.
