In today’s digital age, accessibility is not only at times obligatory, but a fundamental necessity for fostering an equitable and inclusive online environment. SaralX, an Indian startup, is spearheading efforts to dismantle such barriers and empower organizations to embrace the principles of inclusive design. This ensures that their digital assets are accessible to individuals with disabilities.
The Commonwealth consists of 56 independent countries, with a collective population of approximately 2.5 billion people. While accessibility laws and standards vary across Commonwealth nations, many have either adopted or are in the process of adopting the WCAG standards for web accessibility. Numerous Commonwealth organizations, including the Commonwealth Secretariat and the Commonwealth of Learning, actively promote accessibility and inclusive education initiatives. The Commonwealth Heads of Government have pledged to advocate for the rights and inclusion of people with disabilities through the Commonwealth Disability Discrimination Agenda.
The governments of the UK and Australia have already incorporated the WCAG standard as the accessibility benchmark for public sector websites and mobile apps. Similarly, the Indian government has issued guidelines for websites to comply with WCAG 2.0 standards.
