Celebrated annually on 2 February, Groundhog Day is a popular tradition. On this day, groundhogs are said to “forecast” the future weather when they emerge from their burrows. If the rodent doesn’t retreat back when he sees his shadow then the possibility of early spring seems to be on the cards.
However, if the groundhog does see its own shadow, and hence retreats back into its den, it counts as a prediction of six more weeks of winter!
