A new study published in Nature Sustainability shows a cost-benefit analysis of combating desertification in the Sahel region where the average return for every dollar invested is $1.2, despite harsh climatic conditions. About $20 billion has been pledged globally to scaling up Africa’s Great Green Wall programme. This includes $14.3 billion at a One Planet summit for biodiversity held in Paris and 1 billion from Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos, at the COP26 climate conference.
