Zambia has integrated more than 12 million patient records into a unified electronic health records system, laying the groundwork for AI-ready healthcare delivery nationwide. Officials said the SmartCare Pro platform is now live in over 2,000 health facilities, replacing more than 1,600 legacy databases and improving data sharing across the health system.
The initiative, presented at the World Internet Conference in Hong Kong on 14 April, also includes training for more than 14,000 health workers. Authorities said Zambia’s approach, based on national ownership of health data and stronger digital infrastructure, is designed to support future analytics and responsible use of AI in healthcare.
