Botswana has declared a special public holiday to celebrate the inauguration of its new President, Advocate Duma Gideon Boko. Government spokesperson Montlenyane Baaitse confirmed that the holiday will begin with a half-day on Thursday, November 7, followed by a full-day paid holiday on Friday, November 8, 2024.
The holiday will allow Batswana to attend the inauguration and mark the historic moment of the country’s 6th president assuming office. Baaitse encouraged citizens, especially long-distance travellers, to plan their journeys in advance to safely attend the ceremony in Gaborone. This initiative highlights the government’s commitment to fostering national unity as Botswana enters a new era of leadership under President Boko.
