Scotiabank Women Initiative to advance women-owned businesses
Scotiabank announces The Scotiabank Women Initiative (SWI), a programme that aims to advance women-driven businesses in Jamaica. It is the second country within Scotiabank’s global operations to launch the initiative after Canada and has helped over 5000 women develop their business acumen and hone leadership skills.

Guyana approves landmark local content law for oil projects
Guyana’s President, Mohamed Irfaan Ali, signs into law a local content bill that prioritises nationals and companies in the procurement of some goods and services. The law lays out 40 services that oil companies and their sub-contractors must procure from the nationals and locals by the end of the year.

With the growing demand for the metal used to make electric vehicle batteries, Tanzania targets to become a significant producer of responsible and sustainable metals. The project’s new owner, Kabanga Nickel, is anticipating its first production in 2025.
