CWEIC hosts dynamic roundtable on ‘Strengthening Commonwealth – Sri Lanka Partnerships’

On  20 March, CWEIC hosted a dynamic roundtable discussion centered on “Strengthening Commonwealth – Sri Lanka Partnerships.” at the Institute of Directors in Pall Mall, London.  Julia Charlton, Chair of the Commonwealth Chamber of Commerce, joined the deliberations. Rohitha Bogollagama, the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to the United Kingdom gave an overview of recent developments and his insightful contributions enriched the discourse. The participants engaged in thought-provoking exchanges, focused on a vision of a brighter future for business opportunities between the Commonwealth and Sri Lanka. The roundtable paved the way for potential avenues of business cooperation.

On March 6th, schools and businesses close across Ghana so citizens can fully participate in lively Independence Day celebrations. Major cities feature parades and carnivals filled with traditional music and national pride. Military members and children march together, waving the iconic national flag – a tricolour banner of red, yellow, and green emblazoned with a black star representing freedom and national spirit.

Ghanaian families gather to enjoy customary dishes like waakye, a flavorful rice and bean recipe, or jollof rice cooked with tomatoes, peppers, and Ghana’s signature spice blend. The mouthwatering aromas of Independence Day meals fill households from Accra to Kumasi.

WTTC sustainability initiative signs up 1,700 hotels

More than 1,700 hotels across 70 countries have signed up for the World Travel & Tourism Council’s (WTTC) ‘Hotel Sustainability Basics’ initiative. The independent global sustainability verification program enables hotels to follow a 12-step plan focused on reducing carbon emissions, promoting nature conservation, and ensuring local communities benefit from operations.

Major hotel groups from Commonwealth countries such as India, South Africa and Malaysia have joined the initiative, including Jin Jiang, Louvre Hotel Group, Choice Hotels and Radisson Hotel Group. Travel brands including Intrepid and Abercrombie & Kent have also endorsed the program.
